Winter Storm of 2011!

Austin, Texas was hit by a blizzard on Friday Febrauary 4th. Close to 2 inches on the ground! Local weathermen became celebrities and the Gap sold out of sweaters by noon.

As a verteran northerner from Wisconsin, it was time to teach my boys a few lessons on snowball etiquette...

First, a family hug to foster love before the snowballs start to fly. (Note: One son is missing in this picture...more on him later.)

I begin to analyze the situation. You can see that I gave them false hope by allowing them to hit me with one right below the chin. I stayed strong and held onto my snowball.

Kai was first to learn how to build a snowball. He wasn't sure at first...But once he found out that our main target was older brother Jake, he couldn't wait...

He took the glove off for better grip and aimed at Jake...Kai nailed him from close range and you could see Jake's knees start to wobble.

Instead of retaliating on Kai, Jake did the honorable thing and picked on someone his own size. I have to get him while I can. I predict Jake will be taller than me in 3 years at the age of 14...

And down goes Bieber!

Theresa, always on the camera, caught my victory pose. I am humble in victory.

Jake couldn't feel his hands and toes right now. He's smiling because he is in shock. Next, Jake will shoot his eye out.

As the snow started to thaw, Jesse learned the best snowballs come with the help of a little wet snow...

He was more focused on his form than the other boys. I taught him that technique helps keep your feet firmly planted on the ground so you don't slip when throwing. Slippage can make you miss your target.

Solid form in tack after a lesson from Dad, he decided to launch it at my car...

When he missed the car...he decided desparate measures were needed. I had to stop him from going Winter Power Ranger on us all.

And remember the one boy who was left out of the top picture. Well here is our new 18 year-old Julian smartly staying out of the terrible blizzard and in the cozy confines of his room.

I did put a snowball in his mini-fridge in case any aggression from the video games neeeded to be taken out by throwing a snowball.

Until the snow falls again in Austin, Texas!

We were doing very good with getting out Christmas letters the first few years, but we have struggled of late! It was so great to get all of your letters this year. So many new babies...congratulations to you all!

Here’s our annual Halloween pictures!...

Kai was Thomas the Train. He had a little pouch in his costume to put the candy. It kept getting to heavy so we would have to dump it out into his bag!

Jesse was a Black Goblin. You can’t see it in the picture, but his eyes under his mask light up red about every 15 seconds. He won a costume party and felt great!

Jake was a rapper and is often called Justin Bieber at school!

Julian stayed at the house to give out candy. He ate a bunch too!

As for me, I was Lady Gaga. I was a little disappointed in myself because I wore flats instead of heals. I don’t know how women where heals.

Ok...this will get you caught up quick because we plan on blogging more regularly with the start of Halloween pictures! Theresa and I always do a combination custume. In the past, we have been Dr. McDreamy and Addison from Grey's Anatomy. The key thing is staying in character all night. Speaking of characters!!!...check out our 4 below...

I go to school too...Kai is 2 and on his way to make some messes at his daycare! Sorry about the Yankee's shirt. Someone gave it to us and it is one of his favorites. Go Rangers!

Senior year for JT...I might look awake, but the desk in pre-calculus is perfect for a nap.

No it's not Justin Bieber, but his stunt double Jake, who is on his way to the 6th grade.

Kai has decided that walking is much better than crawling. It's his new preferred form of transportation. He's all over the place now! He wanted to show you his new tricks..

It was difficult, but we were able to get all of us in one place for a couple of seconds to get our Easter picture taken! We attended an awesome Easter service at Gateway Church in Austin. They provided free portraits afterwards. You will notice some of the different stages the boys are at just by their expressions on the photo!

Stages:
Julian (16): Man this is embarrassing.
Jake (9): I just want to go run around with the other kids.
Jesse (5): You can only hope to contain me.
Kai (1): I think I need a diaper change.
Dad (age not allowed): I think I need a diaper change too.

On Easter Sunday, the day we celebrated Jesus rising from the grave as the cornerstone of our faith, we also got some pretty nice weather along the way! The kids had some time off school and spent a lot of it outside. Theresa and I say, "Feed them and get them outside for the day!" The weather has been so nice that the neighborhood pool opened too!

Kai Turns 1!

Our littlest guy, Kai, turned 1 on Feb. 20. He is growing up fast and so was his hair. He got his first haircut on his birthday and also enjoyed the benefits of behaving well in the chair. The dental appointment is scheduled next week!

JT Turned 16 today and he is having a great birthday! He woke up to his favorite chocolate glazed donuts from a local donut shop after a late night sleep over with his friends. The big surprise came shortly after the scarfing down of donuts...

A close friend felt lead to give us his old Buick LeSabre...JT knew he was getting the car, but he didn't know about the jet black paint job it received and more importantly the dice that would be hanging from the rear view mirror...

"He pulled up to the house around a quarter to eight and I said , yo homes I'll smell you later" (wait, that's from the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire)...

Christmas in January...slow to post!

The holidays seemed to sneak up on us and then went by too fast. It was a special Christmas for our family. It was Kai’s first and he got to meet his Uncle Brett and Aunt Angie who were visiting from California . Julian got an acoustic guitar and challenged Brett at Rock Band. Jake was proud to defeat Angie in a game of Horse. And Jesse did all he could to stay out of all family pictures…he’s going through an anti-papparazi phase right now. But we were able to get a few pictures below! Hope your Christmas was a blessing as well.

Christmas is almost here and the boys are excited! Remember, we're celebrating the birth of Jesus. He was born in a manger in Bethelem 2000 years or so ago to save the world. And then Santa came around a few years later…Below are some final photos of the boys so that Santa remembers to come to our house!

What does three Pirates, one Batman, one Skater Dude and one Teenager equal?....A large bounty of candy! The kids had a great time Trick-or-Treating with two rules in place…all Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups go to Dad and all Almond Joys go to Mom. At one point, Jesse’s bag of candy outweighed him, less the Reeses and Almond Joys. Theresa and I continued our annual husband/wife combo, this year as Mom and Dad Pirates with Little Pirate Kai!

With Halloween now passed, it’s hard to believe that we’re already into November. Kai turned 8 months and has earned the nickname Scooter for how he moves across the floor. Scooter prefers to use his rear instead of the traditional crawling.

Jesse just had his first sleepover at a friend's house and came back with the coolest pair of Power Ranger PJs that they got for him.

Jake’s Tigers football season ended with an exciting 8-6 victory over the rival Bobcats. It’s now onto basketball.

Julian is doing great balancing school and his job at Chik-fill-a. Theresa and I love when JT spoils us with shakes, sandwhiches and waffle fries on the way home!

A Series of Firsts!

The last month has been marked by some neat little accomplishments. Kai turned 7 months and has begun to read...actually he just eats books. Jesse turned 5, got his first car, started Pre-K, and has already been to the principals office...something to do with his mohawk and tatooes. Jake scored his first touchdown, his first two-point conversion, and a lot of great tackles...all with humility, seriously, not a joke this time. Julian is just awesome in general, and truly the only kid who could put up with all of us, with so much grace and patience...a big accomplishment. Theresa and I...we just hope to survive another day, but love every minute of it!

Julian (sophomore) and Jake (4th grade) started back to school again today. Jesse did too! Jesse missed kindergarten by 13 days, so we are "homeschooling" him, in our own kind of way. He learned how to write the letter "J" today. At this rate, he will be taking Advanced Placement classes next year.

A lot happened this summer...a quick update…from oldest to youngest...

Julian (JT) received his learner's permit and Theresa and I are doing parent-taught driver's ed. He will have his license about one week after his 16th birthday on January 25, 2009. Look out Cedar Park!...

"So was I supposed to stop at that red light?"

Jake is now playing football. He is the tailback and it is fun to watch him take the option pitch around the corner for a touchdown...

"When my helmet goes on, my smile goes away."

Jesse missed beginning Kindergarten by about 13 days. His birthday is Sept. 13. He is so ready to start, but will be a good helper with Kai. He is also our little comedian. When we told him to stop doing something yesterday, he said "Daddy you're not the boss of me, Jesus is!"…

"Anyone seen my skatebord?"

For our little 6-month old, we found out that the name Kai means, "He who holds the keys to the kingdom." This is very true since Kai is so often in charge at our house The big news from Kai…he is eating Stage 1 food!...

"Saving a little for later."

And every once in awhile, we're able to get everybody in the same place at the same time...

Our little Kai-bear turns 5 months old today...and he's quickly gaining on our pint-sized 4-year old, Jesse. Kai is teething so he spends most of his day drooling and crying, but he's also at the stage where he's laughing and smiling. So right when Theresa and I are about to lose all of our marbles from the teething, Kai stops and smiles, and makes it all better again! Jake, Jesse and Jesse's best friend, Siegurd, make Kai laugh a lot too!

JT Conquers Colorado!

We are very proud of Julian, but won't hug him in public. He had an awesome experience on his trip to Colorado. They served with Denver Urban Ministries by helping the homeless and rebuilding homes. Over 4th of July weekend they got up close to God and His beautiful creation...and almost went overboard into it.

It's already July...we can't believe it! I guess time flies by when the boys are keeping busy and having fun. The goal...not to hear Jesse say, "I'm bored"! Jake and Jesse have wrapped up their baseball and tee-ball seasons, while Julian has had his first shifts at Chik-fil-A. We are so proud of him for getting a job! He has already learned how to ask off!! He is on the church's high school mission trip in Denver right now. They are helping the homeless and doing home rebuilding in urban areas of Denver. They will be rewarded for their service with a 2-day white water rafting trip and rock climbing adventure this weekend. And Kai is our 4-month old trooper. He prefers to be on the go....good thing for him...because there really isn't any other way!

Pretty soon I'll be bigger than you!

Schools out for Summer!

Julian and Jake had their last day of school today! They couldn't be happier. Theresa is very afraid...as she will have to keep 4 boys busy. Around 5:30pm each weekday, you can expect to see the hand-off of Kai to Dad as Mom burns rubber looking for a garage sale. She just doesn't understand why garage sales have to be contained to Saturday mornings. Regardless of the day, garage sales make me very afraid. I once got beaten out by a 70-year old woman who really wanted a 25 cent soap dish. On the other hand, Theresa's good at getting lots of cloths at really cheap prices for our quickly growing baby....

How long does Mom expect me to do this?

Now how long does she think I'll do this?

We will soon be up to something...if not already.

Kai the Ninja

Another month has flown by and Kai, now 3 months, keeps getting bigger. He set the record for crying last month, but we love him a whole lot. He likes to trick us when we think he's asleep...we go back to check on him a few minutes later...he's wide awake. He might be part Ninja.

Jake is 9!

Jake had a great 9th birthday on Saturday! We headed to the park and celebrated with friends from his baseball team and school. He is very appreciative of all the gifts, and especially likes the new basketball hoop in our driveway. It feels so good to dunk on a 9 year-old. We love you guys!

Kai is 2 months old and and we're really proud of how mature he is for his age. Jesse is being a great big brother. And if the sound within our home isn't Kai crying, Jesse does his part on the drums, just like his brother Julian and Uncle Brett. Sometimes we call Kai "Baby Brett" because he looks alot like Brett as a baby. We have a little Kris and Brett in the house!

Jake's First Homerun!

Jake stepped up to the plate and did what only a few kids have ever done at the Leander Cedar Park baseball fields. He hit a homerun over the fence on the 7-8 year old field. The blast was about 225 feet down the left field line. Jake is available for autographs during non-school hours.

Kai is now 2 weeks old and he's officially the boss of us. The boys are adjusting very well, as for which, we are very thankful. As for Theresa and I, we're just tired! A quick update...Julian is 15, Jake is 8, Jesse is 4 and the Boss is 2 weeks old. Here's what they all look like now...

Kai Tanner Paulson made us a family of 6 on Wednesday February 20 at 10:59am. Kai weighed 6 lbs. and 15 ounces and was 20 inches long. Poor Theresa....she now has to live with 5 boys! Keep her in your prayers. Thank you for all of your love and support. We appreciate it!

Baby is having such a good time in Mommy’s Tummy that he or she doesn’t want to come out. Due, no pun intended, to the fact that Theresa could burst any day now, the Texas Paulsons will not be represented at Sarah’s wedding. We sure wish we were there!

Please tell Judy if she is not satisfied with the cookies she can ship them out to the Texas Paulson's like she did at Christmas, and while we are at it, we would like to place an order of "Dougey Punch" to go with those cookies!!!

We're almost there! Theresa has one more appointment on Tuesday Feb. 11. The doctor may then schedule her for the induction at that time. But anything can happen between now and then! We're still going to be surprised! We've made it through (3) sonograms without knowing if our little blessing will be Boy #4 or little Girl #1. Keep Theresa in your prayers as this pregnancy has been a rough one for her. She has her bags packed! Jesse does too!
